Renewal of geographic information

Background update and user content incorporation process

It is necessary that the geographic information of the system can be updated, so that, for example, one can add or remove hydrants, fire watch stations, and other kinds of spatial information throughout the island. Object entry or modification is made on a particular thematic layer each time. To begin, the user selects the layer whose information will be modified (e.g., hydrants) and then puts it in the edit state. Using the basic tools for modifying geographic information, the user can change the location or the other properties of the object, introduce new objects, or delete existing ones.

A layer can be processed either off-line or on-line. If the user is off-line then, the next time he goes on-line, the modifications to all the layers that he has processed will be collected and sent to the server. A layer can be processed in many sessions, when the user is off-line, and when he connects to the network, all the modifications will be sent to the server.

The thematic layers whose information is updated includes: hydrants, wells, water reservoirs, water boreholes, roads (national, municipal, farm, forest network, and footpaths), weather stations, city dumps, uncontrolled garbage dumps, fire watch stations, heliports, Fire Service stations, isolated houses and hotels, storehouses and storage facilities (with inflammable materials), fuel reservoirs, productive units (sheepfolds, home industries, factories, etc.)

The available information is organized in units based on geographic area and type. The types of information stored includes: fire stations, police stations, military units, first aid units, municipal offices, volunteers, contact persons earthmoving equipment, etc.

Searching for information is made using a form, in which the user selects the types of information in which he is interested, as well as the areas of interest. The result is a report with all the information of the requested types for the areas of interest.

Updating and entering information is made using special forms that allow the user to enter new information of any type or to modify existing information obtained after a search.
